Decking in Halls

A typical year for us decking the halls starts on Black Friday and ends with us trimming the tree on that following Sunday.  This year was a little different for us… we set out Sunday morning to find the perfect Christmas Tree from Jarrettsville Nursery. After hours of walking and searching we decided to settle on a decent looking 12.5 foot Douglas Fir.  It was a little sparse of branches at the bottom but we assumed it would all work out since we would need to cut a decent amount off the bottom.  Once we got it home, set up in the house and ready to decorate, I suddenly felt a little sad about the tree we had chosen.  We both agreed it wasn’t the best tree (especially compared to our tree last year) but it had character and would look much better once it was decorated.  I decided to wait to decorate the tree till the following weekend. I am not sure what I was thinking, possibly that I wanted another tree or that I would warm up to the tree in time.  Thankfully I warmed up to the tree because I am pretty positive all the tears in the world would not convince my husband to cut us down another tree.  Our tree turned out pretty good and I wrapped a few empty box Christmas gifts to help take up some of the space at the bottom where the tree branches were a little thin.

Our decorations are a combination of handmade ornaments (I made on a budget for our first married Christmas together in 2012) and the ornaments we have collected over the past 5 years on our trips together.  I also accent with red and gold balls and gold tinsel.

The tree trimmings are saved and used for decorating the mantle, flower arrangements, our foyer table and Christmas presents. I also decorate with lots of pine cones, berries, dried florals, candles and a few rustic lodge accents.

Red Dress Wrapped in Plaid

My favorite find of the season are these CRYSTAL TOE PLAID PUMPS. Unfortunately the red plaid seem to be sold out.  However, the shoes are still available in black/white plaid and a blue tartan plaid.  Additional stores that carry these heels are Belk, Zappos and Lauren Lorianne. If you find the red plaid out there scoop them up – you wont […]

Bumps First Christmas

Each year I look forward to all the Christmas Cards from our friends and family – especially the photo cards.  Unless I am expecting packages it is the only time of year when I actually check and bring in the mail.  My husband and I have been continually blessed in our marriage, with our family and […]

Fancy This Time of Year

Who has enough time these days? I would guess many of us feel like we do not have enough time.  I personally struggle daily with prioritizing my time for work, family, friends and myself.  On top of the daily/weekly time predicament, now you add the holiday shopping, parties, traffic and travel.  I LOVE the Christmas […]
