Memorial Day Brunch

This Memorial Day we hosted an intimate family brunch for eight.  Originally, I had all kinds of grandiose ideas for decorating but landed on a simple rustic Americana themed tablescape. Luckily, over the years I have accumulated quite an assortment of entertaining tableware that can easily be used for any theme. {You will see I used a lot of the same items from my Mother’s Day table setup}. Kade happened to fall asleep uncharacteristically early on Thursday evening which gave me a good head start on getting the table together.  I decide to keep our farm table uncovered allowing as much wood as possible to be visible. I grabbed our “Christmas dishes” which happen to be plain red Crate & Barrel dishes. {Side note:  Have you ever noticed a majority of holidays throughout the year have Red as a prominent color: Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Christmas….having solid red dishes in your collection comes in extremely handy throughout the year}. Along with the red dishes I alternated white and burlap charger plates and gold speckled ivory linen napkins.  I quickly folded the napkins into fans and tied them with red, white and blue ribbon I found in my ribbon drawer.  I used wood coasters {from our wedding}, mason jars {can be purchased at the dollar tree or any craft store} and navy paper straws with white stars that I did buy for the occasion. {They were $1 at target}.  Once each table setting was complete I started to decorate the center of the table where the food would be displayed.  Since we were serving food on the table and passing around rather then buffet style I had to keep the centerpiece small.  I used a blue cube vase that I received as a gift with flowers a few months back, filled about halfway with small stones and stuffed it with artificial red and cream flowers and added an American flag for the final touch.  On each side of the centerpiece I filled two empty candle jars with red, white and blue wrapped Reese peanut butter cups {purchased at Target}.  Using wood slab platforms to add height for our food display I placed one at each end of the table along with a round wicker serving tray that would hold the parfaits. {I used the same exact wicker display for Mother’s Day Lemonade Martinis}. I was very pleased with how the table turned out but even more so that I spent under $20 by utilizing items I already owned.
