Baltimore Baton Take Over

The other weekend I had the opportunity to takeover The Baltimore Baton. TBB is an instagram community where folks essentially pass the baton each weekend to B-more locals and the baton holder shares Baltimore through their eyes. My goal for hosting The Baltimore Baton was to share some of my most favorites shopping spots, some cool places to eat and few hidden gems. Every Friday the new host is introduced however you don’t actually find out who the host is till they introduce themselves on Saturday morning. The host has the option of hosting either Saturday or Sunday or both days. I chose to host the entire weekend since there were so many great spots I wanted to share.

I kicked off the weekend my family & friends with brunch at The Chasseur in Canton. The Chasseur has been around for a while however they just added a 3rd floor open air patio bar! Their tavern style open air patio is lined with garage doors and filled with large family style high tops. I was pleasantly surprised they even had a few high top high chairs for little ones which worked out great because I had Kade with us. We ordered Baltimore’s original beverage orange and grapefruit crushes as well as duck fat tater tots for an appetizer. The freshly squeezed orange crushes were refreshing considering it was 80+ degrees out, and our meals were delicious! My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and I enjoyed the avocado toast with egg whites. Both meals were yummy but next time I might splurge and go for the chicken and waffles… mmm mmm good!

After brunch we headed to the other side of the harbor to Pigtown {just west of the Ravens Stadium}. Here we visited two salvage yards HouseWerks and Second Chance. Less than a 1/2 mile away from one another, each specializes in re-purposing Charm City’s architectural salvage with/for Baltimore locals. At HouseWerks you can purchase items as you see them or collaborate with their designers to have them create one of a kind masterpieces for your home or business. I enjoy going there to hunt for Baltimore specific pieces that we can incorporate into our home decor.

Second Chance is a non profit association that focuses on giving second chances to local folks and the salvageable items they find through their deconstruction of local buildings and homes.  You can find practically everything you need for your home at Second Chance. Tables, chairs, couches, art, washing machines, ovens, bedroom furniture and so much more all saved from demolition. They also specialize in reclaimed raw materials. At one end that have thousands of feet of wood. Prices are listed directly on each piece and the longer an item remains at Second Chance the lower the price goes… but don’t hesitate to snag pieces you love because they don’t typically stick around long. My home decor is rustic and their reclaimed wood is often perfect for several of our projects.

To conclude our Saturday night we headed to a local fav The Rowhouse Grille  where we indulged in a few more crushes, old bay wings and jumbo lump crab dip on fresh soft pretzels!

Most of you know by now that I LOVE donuts! So I planned on starting my day at Diablo Doughnuts in Fells Point… but by the time I got there around 11:30am they were completely SOLD OUT! I totally should have know better… learn from my lesson… get your donuts early!!! I decided to take a stroll over to Pitango Bakery for a fresh pastry by the water. I was in the mood for something sweet since I had donuts on my mind and they have tons of yummy treats to offer. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches, muffins, fruit tarts and fresh bread! Lots of fresh bread.
The rest of the day I planned on shopping my way through Baltimore.
First stop was Brightside Boutique. A local boutique with a few locations around the city. They specialize in women’s & men’s fashion, graphic tees and giftables. Obsessing over these looks – they really have something for everyone!

Just two doors down is Poppy & Stella my go-to for footwear in the city! They have shelves upon shelves of boots and booties that make heart skip… so much so that I left with a pair!!! Their fall collection was filled with hues of merlot, olive, mustard, tons of leather and suede too! If you’re in the area, swing by on the third Thursday of each month where they host a little sip, shop and sales event!

My next stop was SuCasa a beautiful home decor boutique filled with unique Baltimore decor, furniture, made to order pieces and a variety of home accessories. Every time I visit SuCasa I one, want everything I see, but two, come home with new inspiration for my next project. I wish I had a need for this honey pot!

I should have walked but considering it was 85 degrees I drove the 1/2 mile to Harbor East. Located right off the Harbor East circle, I visited Sassanova… one of my most favorite Baltimore Boutiques. They carry so many great brands like Misa, Ted Baker, Trina Turk, MZ Wallace and Sail to Sable.  I had so much fun with the girls there as I played “Pretty Woman” styling my favorite fall looks to share with Baltimore. I must have had a thing for boots that day because these over the knee Marc Fishers came home with me too!

After a few outfit changes I quickly skirted across the street to Handbags In The City. If you are looking for designer handbags and love to support local business, this boutique is for you! They carry Tory Burch, Kate Spade, MCM, Marc Jacobs and many more designers. They always have the hottest bags of the season and they carry a lot of totes, which are my personal favorite! I even shared how I convert my totes into diaper bags with the Tote Savvy.
My second to last stop of the day was heading back to Federal Hill to share a little PUNCH with my Bmore family.  Each time I go into Punch they have so many new items! I love that they only have a few of each size so you feel like you are purchasing exclusive pieces.

And that concluded my time hosting The Baltimore Baton… but for my last post I wanted to share a very special place with Baltimore… my home… where the sunflowers grow.

In early May I met with Maewood Photography and pitched them my ideas around planning a styled shoot over the summer. My goal was to collaborate with a variety of local small businesses to create beautiful content that highlights each business.  Maewood loved the idea and we tentatively penciled in a date at the end […]

When I think about summer, I smile from the inside out.  It is without question my favorite season of the year. Weekend Getaway

My in-laws live outside of Raleigh and for the past seven years we have been passing signs for Lake Gaston every time we visit. One of our goals is to eventually own a vacation home at a lake or ocean and occasionally we discuss Lake Gaston being an option. {At the very least a place […]

Four Month Family Photos

WOOHOO!!!! Four Months!!!! We have successfully survived four months of parenthood! And trust me, some days “survive” is exactly what we barely did!! Each road to parenthood, each pregnancy and each baby are unique for every family. I’m pretty sure no two journeys to becoming parents are alike. During our journey I realized that it […]

Happy 4th of July

Happy Birthday America! Another year older and hopefully another year wiser. Usually we celebrate the red, white and blue with all our friends in Baltimore on a rooftop deck with the view of about four to five firework displays. This year however our plans look a bit different. There is the obvious that now we […]
