Magnolia Pond Farm: The Perfect Getaway

Magnolia Pond Farm was exactly what our little family needed for some rest and relaxation! A beautiful farmhouse nestled in the mountains of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Surrounded in beautiful fall foliage and just a quick 1.5-hour drive from Baltimore.

REST, RELAX, RESET

Recently we found ourselves needing a little time away.  That may sound a little crazy since earlier this year we spent 6 weeks traveling to New Zealand and Australia.  But ever since we returned home life has been a little nuts!  Of course, we have the typical everyday stuff like laundry, cleaning, work, groceries, and time with family and friends. But then we threw putting our house on the market, growing our own businesses, and getting Kade involved in activities into the mix. To say we’ve been in overdrive for the last couple of months is an understatement!

We enjoy living near, working and playing in the city, but we love the outdoors too. Magnolia Pond Farm was right up our alley! We decided to take a few days off and go enjoy some peace away from the craziness.  And we couldn’t have picked a better time!  The trees were bursting with color as we drove through the mountains on our way into Harpers Ferry.  It was stunning!  The 1.5-hour drive was quick and before we knew it, we were pulling into the driveway.

OUTSIDE MAGNOLA POND FARMHOUSE

We invited Spencer’s parents to join us since we don’t see them as often as we would like.  After the hugs and hellos, we immediately started talking and commenting on the beautiful farmhouse and surrounding property!  I could tell right away that we had picked a great spot!

The property is spacious with lots of trees and space to roam.  There’s even a hammock to take a cool afternoon nap in!  The house itself dates back to the early 1800s. You can easily see the farmhouse is a log cabin built from hand-hewn beams. A picture-perfect stone walkway leads up to a super cozy wrap-around front porch, complete with rocking chairs for everyone. The porch then wraps around to the right side of the house. There you find a table and stools for outdoor meals and games. Just across the porch is ample firewood kept undercover to keep it dry. A stone patio off the back of the house gives way to a huge back yard. There is a beautiful view of the Magnolia Pond complete with a stone fire ring and stump seating all around.  This is where we spent most of our time!

INSIDE MAGNOLA POND FARMHOUSE

Entering the house from the front, you immediately notice the historic feel.  Just past the entryway, to the right, you find the dining area. It was complete with, a wood stove in front of a stone chimney and large round table with 12 chairs. Following the original hardwood floor leads you to the corner kitchen where you are greeted by a beautifully updated space that still maintains the character that comes with a 200-year-old house.

That was really my favorite part of the house in general.  The Magnolia Pond Farmhouse was updated in such a way that makes it comfortable and familiar to live in, but also really enhances and showcases all the wonderful things about a house this old.  Exposed beam walls and ceilings, hardwood floors, the stone fireplace and chimney, and the woodstove are enhanced with rustic décor styled just right. In addition to the kitchen and dining room, the main level includes a living room, den, and a full bath that doubles as the laundry room.

Up the main stairs to the second floor, you’ll find 2 bedrooms, one with a king bed, one with a queen, and both with en suite bathrooms!  Centered between the two rooms is another flight of stairs that takes you to the 3rd-floor bedroom that has a king and a twin bed, as well as a small powder room. There’s also a 4th bedroom with a queen bed above the den on the other side of the house that has a really cool barn door that leads to the full bathroom.

ALL THE EXTRAS

There really isn’t much you will need to pack to stay here. Pretty much your clothes, food, and drinks. Fresh linens and towels are provided. The bathrooms are stocked with really nice soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There are plenty of outlets all around and chargers in some of the bedrooms which are a really nice touch! When looking for something to do you will find games in the den, horseshoes near the fire pit, an outdoor movie screen and projector for the summer months and the farmhouse is within a few miles of hiking and biking trails, tubing and rafting on the river (available in season), and lots of other outdoor activities.  There is also a binder in the dining area with information on the home and lovely recommendations for things to do and places to eat in the area.

CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK

The Magnolia Pond Farmhouse was so perfect, so much so that we never left! We spent as much time outside as we possibly could. With daily fires throughout the day and night, exploring the grounds, playing games on the porch, and carving pumpkins, our hearts were content. If you are in need of a few days away, we highly recommend a stay at Magnolia Pond Farmhouse! We are already looking into a longer stay next year!
