Outdoor Maternity Boudoir Photoshoot

BLOG POSTS ARE BACK!

Woohoo blog posts are back! After a summer hiatus to really enjoy time as a family of three I am finally posting again. However, our daughter is due soon so my cadence of blog posts might be irregular for a bit. But I promise they will shortly reoccur on Sundays again soon. As for now I have life updates, family photos, fall fashion and all the baby things to share with you. But first it gets a little spicy as I share our outdoor maternity boudoir photoshoot with Jes from Maewood Photography.

We spent the summer in the Glacier National Park area which happens to be one of our favorite places. So it was only fitting that our family maternity photos take place during this time. Coincidentally Kade’s Aunt Jes from Maewood Photography happened to be traveling near us toward the end of July. After chatting a bit we realized a quick detour would be perfect for a visit and our maternity photoshoot.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

There are so many breathtaking locations throughout Glacier NPS and I was anything but short of inspiration for our photo shoot. Having already spent the previous summer there I had a few favorite locations in mind. But this summer was much different than the past. The snow was late and what was once calm water was now high and raging with rapids. Thankfully Glacier NPS is packed with endless landscapes and jaw dropping vistas. Which made it easy to create a new list of epic locations that would accommodate our photos. We had our pick of lakes, rivers, mountains, waterfalls, and fields. Spencer and I narrowed the list down to a handful and the day before our shoot we scouted with Jes. She was able to help narrow our selection based on light direction and timing in terms of daylight and sunset.

TRYING SOMETHING NEW!

Jes and I had several conversations leading up to our photos and knew we both desired to try something new. From styling to editing and composition we all had the chance to explore our creativity. My first step in the styling process was to produce several mood boards. From those mood boards I then created potential looks. We actually ended up with four unique locations and corresponding outfits. Three looks and locations were styled for family maternity photos and the fourth was just for Spencer and I. We had so much fun being a bit playful/sexy together for our outdoor maternity boudoir photoshoot.

Over the years of multiple photoshoots my main goal has become documenting moments that evoke emotion. And these Montana boudoir photos do just that! It was a perfect recipe with Jes behind the lens, a beautiful sunset, and mountainous backdrop.

In the past Spencer and I have participated in a few boudoir photo sessions but this was our first one outdoors. Which was also a bit public because what you don’t is the numerous people that were around to watch the beautiful sunset. Thankfully the other folks were just around for a short period and we were back to have the little stone beach area to ourselves.

At our request Jes got creative with her editing and gave us a handful of select images that were both light and airy as well as dark and moody. Hopefully you too get a sense for our love, playful nature, and willingness to let go and completely be comfortable in front of the camera when viewing these images. And if you do… do you notice that the different editing styles may make you feel different emotions too? We truly couldn’t love these images more and cherish this season of our lives!

Huge, Huge Thank you for Jes for redirecting her travels to come visit us and document our maternity journey. Side Note: Maewood Photography has been documenting our families growth for years. And while sadly Meg wasn’t able to join us we were beyond ecstatic to have Jes be a part of this special time.
