SEASONAL MUST HAVE

Besides a killer pair of denim shorts, my other suggested MUST HAVE item for the season is a Stylish Two-Piece Set. Before diving into all of my seasonal favs, there are few things you should know before purchasing Stylish Two-Piece Sets.

WHAT IS A TWO-PIECE SET?

What the heck is a two-piece set any way? When I mention two-piece set to my style clients, they immediately think one of two things: pant suit or crop top and skirt. Neither are wrong, but they are also not completely correct. A two-piece set is basically the most effortless item you could have in your closet! It is essentially a set that consists of two matching/coordinating pieces. One of those two pieces is for your upper body and the other for your lower half. A two-piece set may consist of a blazer/shorts, blazer/pants, top/pants, top/maxi skirt, top/skirt, and top/shorts. Frequently the top is cropped but that doesn’t always mean your midriff has to show!

STYLE ALIASES

Two-piece sets have a few aliases you should also know about. They can be referred to, or searched by, Two-Piece Dresses, Two-Piece Skirt Sets, Crop Top & Skirt Sets, Co-Ords, or Two-Piece Sets. The first three names are a bit more descriptive and you can assume you will find a set that resembles a dress or skirt paired with a coordinating top. The last two names are broader and can refer to any and all of the previously mentioned two piece set combinations.

TWO PURCHASE OPTIONS

When purchasing stylish two-piece sets you will find that they are packaged and sold in two different options. The first option is where you actually purchase both pieces as a set. This means the top and bottom are the same size and included in one purchase. These are typically at a reasonable price point and great for body types who are consistent in size on both top and bottom. The other way is when the top and bottom are sold separately. Prices can vary on these sets. The benefit is being able to select the size that best fits your specific top and bottom sizes.

I could go on and on and on about my love affair with two-piece sets. I was pretty much born loving them! Iconic ones that stick out in my memory are a purple sweater/skirt set I wore in kindergarten, an adorable lady bug crop top/skirt that my father made me return when I was in 9th grade, and then a bright pink plaid crop top/skirt that I wore for my high school graduation. Then, my most memorable of all… the green two-piece below. I wore this to the 2016 Preakness and won 1st Place in the Longines Fashion at the Races contest. (Fun Fact: That was also the weekend I got pregnant with Kade… I think it was the dress!) I do enjoy styling a good crop top that shows a little, or a lot, of skin! But I also realize that isn’t for everyone or for all occasions.

  1. I used to own a 2-piece dress. The top “blouse” and bottom “skirt” were the same pattern and material. I loved it and wore it literally to death. It was flattering for my figure type because I could blouse the top to hide flaws without drawing attention because the top and bottom blended. I would like to replace it. All I can find are dresses with sweaters, jackets, etc. or 2 piece with midriff showing – ah-no! Can you help me with what to Google? What was that style of dress called? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Than you

    1. Absolutely! I’ll try to add two piece sets back into my styling mix as I as well love them! I find if you look for skirts/pants with a higher waist they usually will touch the top. Check out Showpo 🙂
