Our east coast travels brought us to Myrtle Beach for the past month and a half. And of course we wanted to document all of our family fun! So we teamed up with Alyssa from Alyssa Mims Photography for some picturesque Myrtle Beach Family Photos.
Our family loves the beach and found a rather large but quaint campground PirateLand right along the ocean. It turned out the be the perfect spot for our Myrtle beach family photos since it offered a variety of landscapes. Plus being about 50 yards from the ocean gave us the opportunity to bring Ruko Blu out for a few photos too. He had just turned one and we wanted to document his first birthday as well.
Prior to our session Alyssa and I communicated about a variety of options throughout the campground that would be ideal for our photos. Once we had a few areas selected I started the styling process.
As Kade gets older he is becoming more and more particular on what he wears. And much to my dismay he really doesn’t like what he deems “handsome clothes”. You know ties, dress pants, collared shirts, button ups, and nice shoes. So I’m trying to keep this in mind for our family styling. As you can imagine a happy family means happy smiles and lots of laughter.
FAMILY OUTFIT STYLING
Our campground’s landscapes offered hues of greens, browns and tans. To which I decided to embrace the earth tone colors honing in on brown and green. The first item I typically select is what I’m wearing and then style the boys from there. For our first images around the campground I chose the Charleston Midi dress in the daisy mountain laurel and bees from local designer Susan Albright. Her silhouettes are the quintessential style for a beach chic look. And she hand draws all of her owns prints!!! Luckily Spencer and Kade had a few items that would style well with Susan’s Charleston dress. The only items I had to order was Kade’s pants. He keeps getting taller at rapid speed but his waist doesn’t grow… which is . But I’ll save that conversation for another time. To add texture to some of the photos I layered a chunky sweater that I’ve been loving and had Kade wear the olive green pants to add a color pop and a bit of contrast in our overall style.
Alyssa was fantastic! And our photos turned out beautifully! Being a mom herself she was sweet, kind and patient with Kade. One of my goals this year is to convince more Mommas to jump in front of the camera and document family memories. I know from many of my style clients it isn’t always easy but it is worth it! To help with the uncomfortableness I always suggest working with a professional photographer, choosing a beautiful backdrop and and selecting a comfortable outfit you love!
