Fall Family Photo Outfits

Family Fall Photos

Fall is one of my busiest styling seasons helping families select their fall family photo outfits. I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that family photos happen to be my love language. And it’s not just my own family’s photos that I love, I also love styling yours too!

Before outfit consideration the first step is to hire your photographer and lock in your photo date! That way you can work backwards in prepping your family for all the photo fun and making sure anything you order arrives in time! In recent years many photographers offer mini sessions which is also a great option for families. These sessions typically have the backdrop and color scheme already determined which can be helpful if choosing those are not in your wheelhouse. While I am always an of hiring a professional photographer, I realize that might not always be an option. Thankfully phones have come along way and a tripod/phone or tripod/camera can be a great setup to document the stages of life with your beautiful family!

Styling Tips for Family Photos

Once you have your photo session date locked in then you want to starting planning your families photo outfits. Here are a few tips to follow when creating your Fall Family Photo Outfits.

First, consider where and how you will be using your family photos. Meaning if you plan to hang them in certain areas of your home be mindful of the color schemes you plan to wear vs. in the area where the photos will be displayed. Second, decide if your overall style with be formal/dressy or casual. Third, pick 2-3 colors that complement each other well and will the basis for the clothing selections. Fourth, add layers, accessories and textures.

Family Photos as Home Decor

As luck would have it, I timed this blog post perfectly! We just spent the last two months (July-September 2021) in Glacier National Park. Which was not only one of our bucket list destinations but also the perfect place to celebrate our one year traveling milestone. To which we (I) decided to commemorate this accomplishment with a family photo session in Glacier NPS. While it is not technically Fall yet the leaves have started to change and the temps were certainly cool enough to be considered fall weather.

Just as we did a year ago with Desiree Ortman Photography, we used our fall family photos as decor in our RV. You’ll see these styled below with the accompanying RV décor.

A year later we still have black and white decor but plan on adding a pop color to the mix. Prior to our 2021 family photo session, I was still trying to determine which pop color we would add to our current décor. Since I hadn’t yet chosen between sage and rust, we teamed up with Rachel Jobst Photography to capture both options during our fall family photo session.

Below you will see a variety of outfit ideas for fall family photos as well as coordinating home décor. As always please let me know what you think! And if you take fall family photos send them my way. I would love to see how they turn out.
