A Guide to Sustainable Fashion

A Guide to Sustainable Fashion and how you can make a difference too!

We all could use a guide to sustainable fashion. And, rightfully so, because the fashion industries waste statistics are sobering. If you haven’t been thinking about how you can make a difference now is the time.

Edge Fashion Intelligence shared that the fashion industry alone contributes to 4% of the world’s annual waste. They continued to share that individually we throw away 70 lbs of shoes and clothes annually instead of recycling our unwanted items.

That’s pretty crazy to believe considering recycling our old clothes is easier than ever before with practically a Goodwill in every town, Poshmark, thredUP, Facebook Resell Groups, Churches, and Local Donation Centers.

Recently I stumbled upon Happy x Nature, an eco-friendly brand by Kate Hudson. Their emphasis is to use organic and recycled fabrics, even shipping in biodegradable bags.

GUIDE TO SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Three easy ways YOU can help too!

  • RECYCLE. When cleaning out or purging old items recycle them! If you don’t have time to resell items then drop them off at your local Goodwill, church, consignment shop, or donation center.
  • SHOP SECOND HAND. NWT (new with tag) to well-loved vintage pieces are out there waiting for a new home. Shopping second hand is as easy as opening your computer and finding Poshmark, thredUP or Mom Swap groups. You can also shop at your local vintage, consignment or Goodwill shops.
  • INVEST WITH BRANDS WHO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS. Several brands are now taking a stance in creating sustainable products using vegan leathers, organic cottons and recycled fabrics. A quick google search can help you find some but here is a list of some to get you started.
