Rustic Living Room Shelf Decor

It is hard to believe that we built our house a little more than four years.  The years have flown by and have been filled with so many memories and good times. The past two months have really gone by fast as we have been preparing for what I’m sure will be the best memory of all… starting our family. (In case you are new to my blog, my husband and I are expecting our first little one in February 2017). Prior to the last two months we had decorated/painted three rooms: our family room, dining room and powder room.  Besides creating a nursery, it has been my mission to finish up the rooms we have and have not started on the main level. Starting with the living room (this is also the first/front room of the house – the room everyone sees as they enter the foyer). Due to the baby arriving in 4.5 months and all the spending involved we are not only on a time crunch but also on a budget. I personally do not prefer to have rooms in our home that look good but are not used. The goal for our living room is to be warm, cozy and inviting with a rustic decor that ties into the other rooms of the house.  Home Goods is basically my best friend right now and has provided about 80% of the entire room’s decor.

If I had to guess I would say about a year ago I found four rustic corbels at our local Home Goods and kept in the basement till now.  We used them to support two reclaimed wood shelves that my husband built.  Each shelf is three feet long and features a corbel underneath at each end.

The shelf decor started with photos from our We’re Expecting photo shoot (pictures frames from Home Goods // Photos from Maewood Photography) and hour glasses passed down to me from my Grandmother.

I created rustic floral arrangements for each shelf and added large candle holders from T.J. Maxx (essentially Home Goods). Additional  rustic flair was added with pine cones and small antler sheds I found this past spring on a turkey hunt in Texas.

My Mother-in-law had given us a vintage clock a few years back which I had displayed in another area of the house but chose to add it to one of the shelves because it matched so well.  It also tied in well with the hour glasses… a secondary theme of time perhaps.

Coming up next for this room: handmade coffee table and shelving unit (made by my husband), wall art above the couch as well as curtains and fur pillows from Home Goods.
