Black Eyed Susan Style

One of Baltimore’s most prestigious events is the Running of the Preakness Stakes.  The weekend kicks off on Friday with Black Eyes Susan day. {The name pays tribute to the Maryland state flower}. Black Eyed Susan day {or BES} holds a lot of history for the city of Baltimore and was first run in 1919.  We often call this ladies day… this is the day where the fillies run for the title and part of the triple crown with Kentucky Oaks (KY Derby) and the Coaching Club American Oaks (The Belmont).  MD ladies and gents celebrate this day with an array of colorful outfits, polished shoes and fascinators/hats that would make Kate Middleton jealous.

I typical start to plan my BES day and Preakness outfits in January however this year I was in bit behind due to being 9 months pregnant in January.  I could easily go to Nordstrom and grab a gorgeous new dress but my biggest fear is showing up to an event wearing the same outfit as someone else… actually more like my worst nightmare!!! SOOO in true shoptini fashion I went to work creating something fun and hopefully original for Black Eyed Susan Day. Channeling my inner Carrie Bradshaw I started with a white tulle mini skirt, added a business blue crop top, pink satin pumps and finished off this look with a custom Finchy Baby fascinator. {If you were following along on my insta story you know my shoes for this day did not arrive in time.  I still linked them below because they match this outfit perfectly!

Styled Three Ways! Classy, Casual & Country

It can be quite costly season after season trying to keep up with the latest trends. One of my styling tips is to invest in neutral items… not necessarily in color but rather staple items in your wardrobe that can be “go-to’s” and offer flexibility when creating outfits.  It is fun to purchase items because they […]
